When you get the devastating news that you have cancer you are faced with a plethora of emotions. After the acceptance of the diagnosis. it’s then time to listen to the prognosis and then the expected Treatment plan. I feel very fortunate that my surgeon at Frimley Park Hospital quickly realised that the particular position of my cancer (Colon / Prostate) required an operation that was more complicated than my local hospital normally undertook , hence the referral to Mr Jenkins . Whilst receiving great care & treatment from my oncologist (Dr Essapen) which consisted of Chemo then Radiation, I was referred to Mr Jenkins. I obviously felt trepidation at what may be coming down the line, as the operation was described as “ highly complicated”. From my very first meeting with Mr Jenkins I felt considerably more at ease. As Mr Jenkins explained the complexity of the position of my cancer and the surgery required I couldn’t help but feel more reassured that here was a surgeon who clearly knew what the issues were and had a definite plan for my recovery. He explained the risks, which in themselves could be life changing even if all the cancer were to be removed. During this, the sense of having someone like Mr Jenkins “on your side” is immense. We met again whilst I was undergoing Chemo/Radiotherapy then once this treatment had been completed we met to run through the operation procedures and expected outcomes, then an operation date was set. The operation took place at the London Clinic in June 2024, where I stayed for 8 days . During this time I was regularly visited by Mr Jenkins and indeed by his team. 3 months on and scans are very positive showing the cancer removed. My care during this time has been excellent. I have a longer term catheter which will be removed later this year together with an ileostoma which I also hope to have reversed this year. I would like to thank Mr Jenkins and indeed all the team for everything they have done for me thus far and for helping myself and my wife get through these difficult times. There is more to be done but I feel incredibly lucky to have been referred to Mr Jenkins & Team.
