Mr Jamil Ahmed

Mr Jamil Ahmed is a Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon who has worked in the NHS for more than 20 years and has performed thousands of plastic surgery operations successfully. He undertook his specialist training in plastic surgery in Southwest England & London and was instrumental in setting up the Hand Surgery service at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London where he worked for 10 years before moving to Aberdeen in 2014. His comprehensive training in plastic and reconstructive surgery has covered all of the subspecialties of hand, skin oncology, breast and reconstruction using free tissue transfer procedures and also aesthetic surgery. After completing the FRCS (Plast) exam and being awarded his Fellowship in Plastic Surgery by The Royal College of Surgeons in 2013. Mr Ahmed was also awarded European fellowship in Plastic Surgery. Entry into the prestigious GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery and started his NHS plastic surgery consultant post at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he is currently the Clinical Lead. As a GMC recognised Trainer and Member of The Scottish Training Committee (STC), Mr Ahmed is instrumental in training registrars in this speciality and this academic interest continues to mould the careers of his juniors and leads to the propagation of his diverse skills. He is also a Fellow Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal college of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is a course director for two International Hand Surgery Courses in London and Aberdeen. Clinical interests Mr Ahmed has a specialist interest in Hand Surgery, and he performs complex reconstructive hand surgery procedures using the special WALANT (Wide Awake Local Anaesthetic No Tourniquet) popularised by Donald Lalonde. This technique has been popular during the current pandemic as it minimises patient morbidity by avoiding the need for a general for hand surgery operations. Year qualified: 1987
