After nearly 18 months of various visits to in total 2 consultants, I was referred to Mr Akwari. Well what an fantastic relief! He listened to all of my concerns, competently examined my knee - which due to the time frame of waiting, I had gone from an active 5 times a week gym goer, ultra runner and rugby player to light short exercises as it was unable to sustain any long term exercise, movement or weight gain. After a very short time, I received my surgery date, I went in on 2nd October, had extensive surgery and woke up hours later, with no pain! Yes, I edged open one eye expecting difficulties, I never had. Pre surgery Dr Akrawi spent time revisiting me, going through an extensive rehab schedule and gave a wealth of information and advice. I went home that evening and the following day set about my schedule. With day 1 being surgery day, by day 3 I hopped onto a static bike, it was hard, I will admit, but I continued to listen to my body and by Day 8, I was peddling a full range and motion, I was off crutches by Day 6 and back in the gym working on building range, strength and support. I followed his advice to the dot and I excelled, returning to work 2 weeks later. In January, 3 months after surgery I went skiing in the Alps, I have returned back to running, completing a recent half marathon and recently playing my first full rugby game in a year and half! Polite, supportive and knowledgeable - I could not ask for better! Thank you Hawar - I have sung your praises for months, you are a credit to the NHS and RCHT.
