Mr Akrawi was my consultant and surgeon for a full right knee replacement in June 2022. I had been waiting 3.5 years for the op so was delighted to get it done. I suffer with psoriasis and this can be quite severe on my legs but Mr Akrawi came up with a plan to work with this and ensure the op was carried out with minimal risk of infection. The Op was carried out and went very well . Mr Akrawi was back in the ward that afternoon to check I was doing ok and to explain how the op had gone. I recovered well from this op and have great movement on my new knee. My left knee was also needing replaced so I was delighted that Mr Akrawi was going to be the surgeon to carry out this op. Mr Akrawi explained to me in detail that my left knee wasn't as deteriorated as badly as my right had been and therefore a partial knee replacement may be possible for it . He said he would have both options available to him during the operation . The op went as well as the first one and indeed I did get a partial knee replacement. My op was carried out early afternoon and I was good to leave hospital the next morning . That op was approx 5 weeks ago and my recovery has been excellent . I work outside on rough terrain so I am very hopeful to be able to going back to work full time at 8 weeks into recovery. I have a follow up appointment with Mr Akrawi before then to confirm that this will be ok . Mr Akrawi has a proffesional , positive , demeanour . After the op to encourage a good exercise regime on the road to recovery he said " I've put the new knee in you but right now it's still mine , you need to exercise correctly to ensure good recovery and when I see you have done this you can have it" I thought this was great encouragement to take with me after leaving the hospital.
