This was my first experience of hospital /operations since the age of 3 . At the age of 54 I required a full right hip replacement. The thought not so much of the procedure but the general anaesthetic terrified me . Mr Britton from the onset fully explained the procedure , reassured me of my fears and gave me an alternative option to the general of a spinal and sedation . He said if he was to have a new hip he would opt for this . I took this option . From the beginning of my procedure the ward staff , theatre staff , anaesthetist and Mr Britton were reassuring, considerate , caring and if I wanted anything explaining nothing was to much trouble . I was in and out of theatre in under an hour and a half with no after effects of a general anaesthetic and back in my private room tucking into soup and a sandwich . Within 24 hours I was up and walking with two sticks and out of hospital in 48 hours . The care for those 48 hours was second to none , catering staff , physios, reception and the people I mentioned earlier. Follow up visits to the physio and Mr Britton at Nuffield York ensued ,again nothing but high praise . Well within a year back to skiing and golf
