4 years ago we were given the devastating diagnosis of our 9 year old daughter's spinal cord tumor. Due to the potential risks associated with surgery we decided to get a second opinion with Mr Thompson prior to starting any treatment. From the first appointment we were reassured by his calm, informed approach. He spent considerable time talking through what was involved with the surgery, likely outcomes and potential risks. It was evident that he had considerable experience and was operating on far more similar cases per year than our regional neurosurgeon. On the evening following surgery he was supportive yet plain speaking. He explained that he had taken out as much as he safely could but that there may be some small amount if tumor remaining - he had stopped rather than risk the spinal cord. We could not ask for more than this measured approach. His follow up reviews have been regular and at each appointment he has completed a thorough neurological assessment. At no time have we ever felt rushed. We would unequivocally recommend Mr Thompson and do not feel that we could possibly have received any better care. His expertise has meant that our daughter has had an outcome far better than we ever thought possible.
