It is hard to do full justice to Mr Banerjee. I was allocated him quite by chance as he was the only surgeon who could see me at short notice, late one Wednesday afternoon. I was so lucky. Mr Banerjee is not only a fantastic surgeon but he is a kind, empathetic man who makes you feel he has all the time in the world to explain what is happening to you. He drew me diagrams, made notes for me and gave me copies of my reports following my biopsy. I felt informed but most of all I felt I was in the hands of someone who knows their stuff, who is working at the top of their game in terms of research and current thinking and who is definitely working to do the best for me not only in terms of disease recovery but also the physical outcome, what would I look like afterwards. I had to have a full mastectomy on my right hand side and decided to have a DIEP reconstruction at the same time. I joined Mr Banerjee whilst he was in-between secretarial support (and there is a lot of admin involved) and he personally organised my surgery at Parkside, pushing to get me seen there, rather than at a hospital some distance from my home and liaising with Miss Rose who was doing the reconstructive surgery. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Banerjee, he and Miss Rose are a dream team. The mastectomy is now almost invisible, the stitches hidden below my breast, my nipple was saved and the reconstruction so good that now, 6 weeks later, to an untrained eye, it is honestly hard to tell which one was operated on.
