Mr Rate performed my subtotal colectomy, providing me with a "pretty" stoma and excellent quality of health. He gave me time to ask questions and come to an informed decision before deciding to have surgery, which he and my gastro consultant both knew was inevitable. But he understood that being emotionally prepared meant I would cope with this life changing surgery. (In my case, life changing for the better).
He is not chatty, but excellent at his job, known by other professionals for the quality of his surgery and resulting stomas, He was happy to refer me to another surgeon if I didn't want open surgery, but I had too much faith in him and his quiet calm attitude.
