I have been living with the effects of endometriosis for 12 years and although I had a procedure to remove some of the endometriosis this never made any difference to the heavy, painful and long periods I would experience every month, this really impacted on my ability to carry out normal day to day activities and 7 years after that procedure the pain had become unmanageable again, my periods were between 6 to 8 days long, very heavy, extremely painful and very clotty. I was referred to Mrs Gumma at The Fitzwilliam Hospital in Peterborough, from my first consultation I left the hospital feeling confident and hopeful my condition could be improved, following a diagnostic laparoscopy we discussed treatment options one of these being an endometrial ablation as I am only 36 Mrs Gumma was very reluctant to perform this procedure as it means you can no longer carry children although I was certain I do not wish to have children Mrs Gumma really made me take my time with this decision and really cared about making sure she was doing the best for me and I wasn’t making a mistake. After discussing all options available to me Mrs Gumma agreed to perform the endometrial ablation, this was now four months ago and I have seen a dramatic improvement to all of my symptoms although following this procedure 40% of women never have another period I was not fortunate enough to be in that number but my periods now last between three to four days, they are very light with no blood clots and I no longer experience the crippling period pains, this has improved my quality of life very much and I would recommend Mrs Gumma to any woman struggling with gynaecological issues
