It has been a long time since I have felt that a health care professional truly cared about me as a person, the difficulties I was experiencing and the impact that my condition had on my daily life. Mr Kirker not only examined me thoroughly but he listened attentively while I described the circumstances that led to my appointment. His bedside manner and body language made him approachable and trust worthy. Instead of standing far away from me, creating physical distance between us, he sat next to me on the examination couch, looked me in the eye, did not interrupt, rush my explanation or dismissed my comments. I feel very grateful to be treated by someone who truly cares about his patient’s welfare.
