I was most appreciative of Dr Kar's speedy resolution of my medical problems when they first came to his notice. Within a week of my being referred to him, he had consulted other colleagues, arranged a comprehensive consultation for my wife and me, and set-up a case conference involving himself, his deputy, a surgeon and deputy together with various support nurses. (7 people in total) Dr Kar always appears cheerful and has time to talk to patients, offering reassurance. He also actively involves the patient, offering choices/options, etc. All round, he leads a very effective department at QA Hospital Portsmouth

I have suffered from conns syndrome for many years. When I saw Dr Kar I found that he had a thorough knowledge of my condition and he took immediate and positive action. Within several months I had a left adrenalectomy and after Dr Kar resolved my post operative medication I now have consistently normal blood pressure and a healthy blood potassium level which is holding. I cannot praise Dr Kar enough and would not hesitate to recommend him.

Dr Kar was absolutely fantastic. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and then a few weeks later I found out I was pregnant. I had started on 50mg of levothyroxine which was increased at my second blood test by 25mg after they found out I was pregnant. I did not feel this was enough and went back to my GP to ask for this to be increased as I had read a lot of research on hypothyroidism in pregnancy and additionally the leaflet for levothyroxine suggests an increase to 100mg in non-pregnant patients. I was also aware that if the thyroxine level was not high enough then it can affect the foetus's brain development especially within the first trimester. I went to two separate GP's and both advised 75 mg was enough but agreed to make my referal to Endocrinology urgent. I have been very worried for the last 3-4 weeks and had to chase my GP to fax this over urgently as Endocrinology had still not received it. Following my visit to Dr Kar, I was immediately put at ease and he explained that my dose should have been increased. He also helped me to no longer feel like I was behaving as though I was over paranoid and he reduced my stress immediately by giving me a blood test straight away and informing me that he would contact me Friday to inform me if the increase is enough or if it needs increasing further. I can honestly say that due to the risks and worries I have had for this being my first pregnancy as well, it was imperative that I had an immediate referal to Endocrinology due to their specialist knowledge. Thanks to Dr Kar, I can now enjoy Christmas knowing that my care for my pregnancy is in safe hands. I cannot speak highly enough of this doctor. His knowledge, care, concern and actions for me as a patient were outstanding.

Dr.Kar is without doubt the most efficient, helpful, pro-active Doctor I've ever come across. I can not recommend this man highly enough. When my treatment came to an end with Dr.Kar, I actually felt sad that I wouldn't need to see him any more.........!

It was the first time ever I had been given a doctor's telephone number to call if I had any worries. Dr Kar was always happy to talk me through my worries and even called me back on a Friday night when he could have been relaxing! It is refreshing to see a Doctor who is willing to challenge 'normal' NHS routine and put the patient first. I would recommend him to anyone and I have certainly seen another side of the NHS than the press promote. With more doctors like Dr Kar the future of the NHS could be superb.
