On the 29 May 2014 I was admitted to Claremont hospital Sheffield for spinal surgery with Mr Marcel Ivanov consultant Neurosurgeon. At this point I had no idea who the Anaesthetist was. In walked Mr Howard Knifton-Smith who introduced himself. Wow what a fantastic guy, what a character. He explained quite comprehensively what he was going to do up in theatres. I explained to him after previous surgery I had felt sick and unwell, he said he would take care of it. In theatres he completely put me at ease talking and reasuring me and before I knew it I was asleep. He came to see me after surgery to check everything was ok. He was right, I didn't feel sick or unwell. You can't always choose your Anaesthetist like you can your Surgeon because Surgeons generally like working with their choice. If you can choose, then choose this guy. He's such a nice and fantastic guy, you won't be disappointed. Thank you Howard. Michael Davies
