I saw Dr Robertson with a very painful sore throat. I had been coping with it by taking pain killers and sucking lozenges, but thought after two weeks I should see a doctor. I expected to be told it was a virus and would eventually get better, and so no point in antibiotics, but she treated me very sympathetically. She took a throat swab and after asking me about other symptoms, prescribed a ten day course of penicillin. It is now getting better. While I was in the waiting room I observed the reception staff dealing very professionally and kindly to two "difficult" patients. One young man who had little English didn't understand why his medication hadn't improved his condition and the receptionist patiently explained about it, but then asked what his own language was and said she would get an interpreter. The second man had come in expecting to see a doctor, but apparently a telephone consultation had been made. When this was explained to him by one of the receptionists he was angry about this and expressed himself loudly and rather too forcefully, demanding to be seen. A mother and child sitting in front of him were clearly disturbed and moved seats. The receptionist said she would talk to her colleague and eventually a senior receptionist came and calmed him down by saying if he came back later he could see a doctor. First class.
