My care from the outset was very caring and professional which was especially important having just received my first cancer diagnosis. Andrew was very re-assuring regarding the upcoming radiotherapy treatment and the likely symptoms I would encounter.
At one stage during the radiotherapy treatment I did receive some contradictory advice regarding diet and weight maintenance. At the start of the treatment I was advised to follow a tried and tested diet which I did..e.g.. keep off wine and only eat root veg etc..
On one radiotherapy session I was told I was losing weight which was not desirable as my initial setup (the one where tattoos are dotted don your lower body) was based on my weight on that date and therefore needed to be maintained for the full radiotherapy treatment (20 sessions) to ensure the best results.
I would suggest that this important balance of diet and maintaining weight whilst on the new temporary diet is outlined and emphasised at the outset to the patient i.e. making sure you eat enough of the new diet to compensate for any loss..(I probably started loosing weight due to my not drinking wine or eating forbidden foods during the radiotherapy!)..
Otherwise the treatment went well and the staff in the radiotherapy department were excellent..
Sorry I have gone on a bit here...hope this report is of help to the hospital and other cancer patients..
We could not fault the advice and attention that Andrew gave to me and would recommend him very highly indeed.
Andrew is always extremely professional and attentive, his bedside manner is excellent and if i need to know anything or have any issues he never fails to contact me.
Andrew Hunnisett and Tracey Ellis provided outstanding care. At our first meeting, they gave us clear and concise information and answered a long list of questions which enabled us to make informed choices about the best treatment. They included my wife in all discussions and recognised we were on “the journey” together. Andrew was always available by phone or email. He answered queries promptly and helped me through a few difficult times. I will always be very grateful for his outstanding help and support. I was so glad that Andrew was there when I rang the bell to mark the end of my treatment! Andrew is an outstanding Clinical Nurse Specialist and is a great credit to his profession. It’s very difficult to think of anything that could be improved! Maybe the print quality of some of the information booklets could be improved. Perhaps it would be better and more cost effective to send them to patients by email? I also found that some of the booklets need updating in a few places. My radiotherapy treatment was done on at least four, different LA machines. It would be nice to stick to one or two as you get used to the rooms and, very importantly, the radiographers. However, I can appreciate this must be something of a logistical nightmare! (Mike Smallridge 03/11/2022)
My meetings with Andrew were relaxed and very informative like talking to my mates "brilliant" no need to say anything else
Mr Andrew Hunnisett was awarded the iWantGreatCare certificate of excellence in 2024 for delivering outstanding care.
