We are now seven years since my husband was admitted to the Walton centre as a emergency following surgery at Preston hospital to remove a clot from his brain at the age of 39
The staff at his bedside 24/7 whilst he was on a life support machine were exceptional explaining everything clearly to relatives who know nothing about the rocky road ahead following a brain injury
The facilities of the family rooms and the closeness of other families in the same position will always stay in my mind at that crucial time praying for survival
We will forever be truly grateful for the expertise and care given at this critical time in my husbands life and we will always be eternally grateful for the exceptional care and professionalism of the Walton centre I could never find one fault to improve anything to give the patients greater care
Seven years down the line he's still here to tell the tale yes life will never be the same but ....due to Prestons surgery and the Walton centre intensive care department he wouldn't be with us today x
Having visited yesterday for an initially visit prior to surgery was impressed to find the kindness and professialism shown by all members of the staff encountered. I was introduced to neurosurgeon and aneathasist(can't say it never mind spell it, sorry) who I found to be approachable , informative and extremely pleasant, roll on Tuesday for my op.
The Nurses, Physios, Junior Doctors, anaesthetists and surgical teams were amazing along with 50% of the consultants. There are some consultants on the other hand that are hopeless when it comes to talking with patients and have a really bad bed side manor. Its pot luck as to who you get. The consultants on pain teams are amazing but (and its a BIG BUT) every Consultant Neurosurgeon I had were really arrogant and wouldn't listen to me or what I had to say. I strongly recommend that you record your consultations in clinic with them. Its the only way I could prove what was said as the letters they dictated only contained half the information they gave or treatment options they could offer. I used the excuse that I had a really poor memory from the meds I was on. and they accepted that.
The wards are spotless and the staff on them are amazing. I have always been in a room to my self to avoid infection. They have been like new with big TV's lots of storage space and big bathrooms.
Just because I had some bad experiences doesn't mean everyone will. one of my friends has had nothing but great treatment there. Just keep your head and record the consultations.
Excellent care in every way
I was told the full truth and possible side affects of my tumour at all times. The staff where very caring during my stay. And the communication between staff was second to none. The food was outstanding. It was extremely clean at all times and in all areas!
They got me in at the earliest and safest possibility. I will be forever grateful.
Martin, Megan and Liz (Cairns) in particular where amazing.
