Had fantastic care all the way through my pre opp and the procedure. The only problem was that I was never told I would have to see the doctor the day after my procedure and living 60 miles away I had to stay in hospital. Also it took 6.5 hours to receive my prescription after seeing the doctor, I am sure they knew what medication I needed the day of the procedure

I have had three inpatient stays in Chavasse ward and multiple outpatient appointments over the last few years. The first procedure was during covid which meant I could not have any visitors. I was in hospital for a week and every single member of staff that came into my room, domestics, HCA, nurses, Drs all tried to make me smile during a really difficult experience. The staff on the ward and the staff in the outpatients department were all kind and caring. After my first stay in the hospital I had no anxieties about going back.

Having recently lost my carer I struggled to get to this appointment as it is six miles away from my home address. I do not drive and rely on friends and family to go with me to appointments. As nobody was free to attend I had to attend alone. I was surprised that the consultant was cross I was late "as I didn't live far away." It did not appear that staff knew I rarely leave my home, let alone travel six miles alone. I am autistic and the consultant was definitely not aware. I'd ask that doctors try to remember that six miles is a long way when you are both physically and mentally impaired, and I think I can assume my doctor no longer uses public transport and may have forgotten how unreliable it can be, especially on a Friday at rush hour just before Christmas. I was reassured by the lovely receptionist that I would still be seen even if late, as the doctor was running twenty minutes late with patients..I cannot fault the receptionist or the nursing staff who were all very professional. I was experiencing a panic attack, but don't believe this was recognized - instead I was a difficult patient who needed a chaperone. I'm very grateful to the nurses who persuaded me to stay, and I'm grateful to the consultant who continued with my appointment despite my distress. I'm not difficult or rude, I'm autistic. I was extremely stressed and had already explained my lateness to the receptionist and was therefore very confused to be chastised by the consultant. I'd apologized so many times, that I did not realize that I had to continue apologizing throughout the appointment. I assumed that the receptionist had told the consultant that I was, genuinely, stuck in rush hour traffic. I underestimated the time it would take, because I always do, which is why I am usually chaperoned. I'm saddened that my current symptoms weren't enough for this to be understood and forgiven. I asked the receptionist if I should rebook (when I was en route on the phone) and she rang me back and told me to come in regardless. I followed her advice but was still met with a very inconvenienced consultant. Prior to today, I have not attended an appointment alone in years. I was so relieved to have gotten there that I believe the consultant mistook my smiling face for rudeness when I was over half an hour late.

All the staff were very engaging and polite using my first name at all times. They were very reassuring when I asked them a question. The whole process throughout ran very smoothly.

I entered the Walton Centre on 11th September 2023 for MRI guided focused treatment to correct essential tremor affecting my right hand. I was placed in Cairns ward, the procedure to be undertaken on 12th September 2023. The atmosphere and care in that ward was excellent, the staff being most friendly efficient and approachable. I had previously attended meetings with Mr Osman Farah and colleagues and was given a clear understanding of the procedure for which I had opted. There followed a pre operative appointment with various members of staff all of whom I found to be warm friendly people who were happy to answer any queries that I posed. I therefore presented myself for the procedure fully confident in the ability of everyone to give me a positive result to a tremor that I had suffered for some 30 years. On the day of the procedure my head was shaved by a very friendly male nurse who was at pains to ensure that any nervousness I felt was dispelled and that I arrived at the theatre in a positive frame of mind. The procedure entailed me being placed in a MRI machine with the ablation of a tiny portion of the brain being by guided focused ultrasound energy(as I understand it). The procedure took I believe over two hours, was totally without pain, my condition being regularly checked throughout. The improvement in my condition was immediate. My right hand is now measurably better than it has been for many years. I can now confidently handle pots of hot water fasten buttons, shave, use knives and tools and undertake all of the daily tasks that most people take for granted but have been denied to me for many years. The very next day I was examined by a lady neurologist and declared fit for release just 24 hours after the procedure. Walton Centre and it's wonderful people have my grateful thanks for the outstanding way that they looked after me and for the change that they have wrought in my life, the possibilities of which increase every day as more forgotten and abandoned talents are re discovered. Thank you all so very much!

Absolutely fantastic- I had MR Focused Ultrasound for Essential Tremor on 24-8-23 at the Walton Centre. From arrival to discharge the next day, I found the whole thing truly fantastic. From the Doctors and Nursing Staff to the assistants on the wards, nothing was to much trouble.
