Thank you for all the visitors and the prompt, excellent service. You always called to say when you would visit and everyone was helpful and caring.
Was in constant contact very understanding and caring.
Very understanding and not judgemental of my situation.
Because I felt I could talk about anything.
Betty was so kind understood!
I am about to share how the attitude of staff makes a difference to good patient care.
Last night I didn't not get my medication on time and this resulted in me not able to control myself. However a very kind nurse Nellie, showed so much compassion and respect to me, it made me feel like a human being. Nellie also called the SHO to discuss my pain relief, I am hoping the team check my GP record so care is safe and continuous. Having physical health problems and being on a mental health ward because I am having strong suicidal thoughts, is very fragmented. But at least the Dr saw me and discussed a plan.
Poor care, is when I cannot walk up and down the corridor, as I have a chronic problem with my back and my disc. Close to prolapse. So need appropriate pain relief for this period and bed rest. There is no call bed in the mental health bedrooms. So I called the nursing station to ask kindly for a plastic spoon to eat a yoghurt. This is after I had just walked all the way up and down the corridor for a jug of water. But i forgot the spoon.I heard the nurse saying to her colleague, this is not room service. She forgot to mute the phone.
Really sad when some staff prefer to sit in the office and chat with each other, than offer a little help to patients.
But not all staff are like this. There are some kind caring staff on Ruby ward.
Shepherd is a good nurse, he always has time for patients and he speaks to patients with respect.
Ruby staff are very caring and compassionate.
As a nurse myself, I know how hard it is for 2 nurses to look after 20 patients. However they have a team of multidisciplinary staff. And the health care assistants are kind. Kimberley, Nellie and Marigold, thank you for helping me to manage my pain, ( physical and emotional) during medication review.
My first day on Ruby ward. The medic saw me but thought antidepressant wasn't needed for my low mood and suicidal thoughts. That I should simply have therapy. I have a degree in psychology and there is no way a person can engage in a therapeutic sense if they are actively low and suicidal.
I learnt that physical health monitoring is not priority on mental health ward. Pain management is also not priority. This is my first time on mental health ward, so I an learning alot.
On positive side, nursing care is still good, they ask if u if i had prescribed medication, u tell them no, and they will bring it for u. Even though it later thN prescribed. I understand as I am a general nurse. Things get missed.
I had a positive experience in my admission I had excellent care from the professionals in Whiteleaf Centre.
