I attended this hospital today for a pre admission assessment I was totally shocked at the lack of professionalism and appearance of the hospital The place is very dated and in need of a complete refurbishment It felt chaotic and overly busy ,there was very little courtesy from the staff I had to deal with This is no reflection on my consultant and team I’ve been dealing with they have been amazing The hospital felt very underwhelming

I was a tad apprehensive after seeing a couple of poor reviews of this hospital but I was assured by my surgeon’s assistant and I’m glad I listened to her. From my pre assessment to my dealings with the finance department as a self pay patient where all my questions were answered fully. I treated with great care. I was admitted to Epping Ward and the staff, all the staff not just the doctors and nurses were very kind and helpful. I found the ward clean and orderly, the staff polite and attentive which is just what you need when you are vulnerable.

I was really impressed with the level of care offered after my surgery, the staff were extremely friendly and caring. I was also impressed with the room's hygiene and catering service. My first experience was daunting as the rooms was dull, dusty and scary.

I was referred by my GP for a routine colonoscopy. Receptionists were friendly and polite enough and that was the end of all niceties! The waiting room, just opposite of the reception was small, dated and you have to sit knee to knee with other people when it's full (it doesn't take many to fill that small space). The nurse asking routine health check questions was through but obviously a smile was too much of an effort for her. I was told to get changed and lie on the bed, I noticed that the floors were very dirty. It took the nurse about a minute to clean my arm and put the needle in. Then another nurse came in and told me very rudely, quote, ''Get off the bed and sit there'', unquote! ('There' was a chair) Is this a private hospital or a prison ward? In hindsight, perhaps I should've walked away but I just wanted it over. She took the bed and disappeared, after a few minutes she came back and told me to go with her. So I walked to the surgery room just to go back on the same bed again. The bed was low and very uncomfortable and I asked if they could possibly high it up, the nurse said that she couldn't high it up but I could fold a pillow in half. They were supposed to give me something to relax me but I didn't feel relaxed at all. Nobody asked me how I felt or if I felt relaxed; actually nobody said a single word to me after I walked in that room. Then they carried on with the procedure and I felt everything and I said so and I didn't even get an answer. It was quick but it was painful and nobody was particularly interested, I didn't feel relaxed at all. I had the same colonoscopy a few years back (thankfully, in another hospital) and the nurses kept asking how I felt, if I was comfortable and so on. No such luxuries in that excuse of a private hospital. The doctor who carried out the procedure was Dr Kalpesh Besherdas; obviosly I can't comment on medical credentials but if you want to go through any treatment without any human compassion, he's your guy! I was in considerable pain but the two nurses took me to the room and the male nurse who came after told me it was just air. It was the only thing he said to me. When I came home, I suffered 10 hours of stomach pain. I was supposed to get the biopsy results from my GP but after two weeks, I still don't have them. My wife called the hospital (I can't even keep polite dealing with the staff of this hospital anymore) after being put through four different departments, they figured it out that they sent the biopsy results to the wrong GP, a surgery I've never heard of! Perhaps we don't need new hospitals or private ones; we just need people who know what they're doing in there. If you're a fee paying patient, you can definitely find somewhere better and if you're considering a remotely serious procedure, keep away!

My first time going private and I couldn't fault this hospital at all. All the people were very nice and caring and made you feel great.

In comparison to other private hospitals in London such as the Lister, the Clementine Churchill Hospital is very unprofessional. This review is NOT CONCERNED WITH THE CONSULTANT and anaesthetist, who were outstanding, but with the actual hospital. I was a day patient and prior to surgery was shown a menu and I gave them my choices Lo and behold just after coming back from recovery, and in my room, I was just given two pieces of toast and jam, which was not what I ordered. Why do they bother with the menu? If I was attending the hospital with a serious illness I would feel VERY VERY insecure. As you are paying, I think it is only correct that the patient should feel looked after. What a shame, as some of the consultants are top notch. The hospital itself is very much past its sell by date, and needs complete renovation if it is to compete with other new medical facilities that are opening all the time.
