Appointments never ran on time and when you were seen the nurses would speak to one another or provide information to you as if reading from a script. It isn’t very nice laying there during a scan not being told directly how things are going. There was no personal care what so ever during clinic appointments and I felt like I was on a conveyor belt on each appointment. Considering the level of success rates for IVF there should be more information and discussion preparedness for bad news. It was as if they didn’t want to talk about it. The after care wasn’t much better. I received a call from a member of the team who I had never seen or spoken to and was told how sorry she was the treatment was unsuccessful. This call came 24 hours after informing the clinic. Was I really supposed to believe their compassion considering they didn’t even know me?! It seemed all they were interested in was getting me back in for an appointment to discuss self funded treatment. Counselling was offered, I received a call two weeks later and was told only phone calls were available but couldn’t say when I would receive one. I don’t take any of this personally but sadly feel that this is the way the clinic operates to see as many patients as they can each day. Resourcing and volume is obviously an issue but if one thing could change I would suggest being seen and spoken to by the same nurse throughout your treatment. It’s a very anxious time and waiting for sometimes up to an hour for your appointment and then not really having the chance to talk to the nurse once you are seen does not help. I hope my comments can be taken constructively and acknowledged for any possible future improvements.
