Because the treatment I received was slip shod and not well managed. A catheter was removed and no provision was made for me passing water whilst it had not been replaced which caused me to foul my clothes. This happened twice as was moved around a/e to cubicle 28, there was then a problem over a replacement catheter the correct type and size was not available. When a catheter was found as a make do the nurse fitting it did not give me any instructions about holding my breath before fitting and caused me undue pain. She having fitted it did not explain that I would have to wait for the doctor who said he would fit it would come to discharge me. There was then a long delay in him coming to talk to me. I had chased up on him coming twice before he came. When he did come he said the catheter was a short term fix and would need changing after 4 weeks at which a wee test would. After he told me I set off to leave only to be called back by another doctor who realised I still had my identity arm band on. He removed it and I left A&E and travelled home in wet clothes, arriving home at 2 15 am some 6hrs. I accept that the department may have been busy, but some of the attention I was given caused me unnecessary discomfort and left me feeling unclean which when I got home I rectified by a complete wash down before retiring to bed and then sleeping until midmorning on the Sunday from complete exhaustion.
