All appointments on time. Staff listened to you. The staff made me feel welcome and not a nuisance. Much better than other departments such as cardiac where you are not welcome and rushed in an out in less then two minutes despite having to wait months for an appointment. Well done. If one department can do this why cannot the others.
Excellent service and I thought that the staff treated me in a most caring way. The nurses were efficient friendly and completely put me at ease. I would have no hesitation in recommending the hospital to others. I just wished that my local G. Ps could be equally as efficient and helpful.
The Renal outpatients team at QA are all superb - so friendly, caring and above all professional (Michelle has got to be the best Receptionist ever). However, I was not enamoured with the Consultant who has replaced Jasna - I was in and out of his room in under 5 minutes, having never met him before and I have no idea of his name. Jasna was a truly brilliant Consultant to both me and my wife (my donor) and we shall miss her. Apparently she was "sacked" and obviously we do not know the exact reason but we cannot believe it was justified. She took time to make her patients feel at ease, answered all our questions and made us feel like friends and not her next appointment (the exact opposite to her replacement). We have a friend who was also a patient of Jasna who feels exactly the same. We wish her well and would love to see her back where she belongs.
Because of an error regarding my postponed chemo appointment, my meds were not available on the day of my appointment. My son phoned the day after and spoke both to pharmacy and Day Unit to check if my Meds (which I should have been taking from the previous evening) were ready for collection. After several phone calls he discovered they were ready for collection- by mid day... We drove to QA and my son went in to Day Unit to collect my Meds, returning what felt like some considerable time later. He explained that he had arrived at Reception in the Day Unit where two people were behind the desk studying computer screens. In order to be polite and not interrupt he waited patiently. Time went on. Neither person acknowledged his presence at all and both departed without asking him what he wanted or apologising for the wait. Someone else turned up at which point he asked if he could please collect my Meds. He was told to wait further as the person was doing something else. He was finally given my Meds and left feeling pretty frustrated. This is NOT AT ALL what the Day Unit is like, hence my high scores above so I want to highlight to you this uncharacteristic behaviour. One should not be left at Reception like a lemon while staff ignore one’s presence. We deliberated at great length whether or not to bring this to your attention but felt you would prefer some honest feedback. Many thanks in general to a super, hardworking team of staff!!!!!
The only problem I had was that I wasn't seen for 30 minutes after the time scheduled for my appointment. The Doctor I saw in the Rheumatology Department was thorough and showed a lot of interest in my condition.
I love the NHS, best in the world, but being shafted by the politicians and Brexit.
Nursing care on the ward is really good and can't fault. What needs to be looked at and is a big fault within hospitals generally and what is a big part of the recovery of patients is the quality of the food, this can vary greatly and although management will say the usual "we test all food", they have never been force to eat the product for a period of time (as in the real world). Also no toast for breakfast (health and safety over patients health), little things make a big difference in patients life and recovery!
It was ideal to find out if my fracture was due to fragile bones or not. I think it could be more publicized at GP Surgeries so that a doctor could recommend before an accident
entered just before appt time. Straight away letter taken and paperwork provided to have plaster and wires removed. short wait and seen in plaster room where very efficient staff removed plaster and then staff prepared wrist for wire removal patiently explaining throughout. New plaster applied and left within the hour. Couldn't ask for more!
Everyone was very friendly putting me at ease.
