Review of D5 written by a patient
21st February 2019

The service I received from my Surgeon and medical staff pre-op was excellent. The morning of my admission was excellent and everything was explained to me in detail. The operation and immediate care after the operation was also excellent. The nursing staff worked very hard, but even though all of my normal medication was recorded and reviewed it was not copied on to my ward chart and not authorised by the elusive 'Ward Doctor'. This meant I was unable to take my blood pressure and other necessary medication. I queried this with the sister who tried on numerous occasions to contact the doctor. All to no avail. I feel we have a great NHS service but are let down badly by incidents of this nature. When finally discharged I took my medication of my own volition 6 hours late. I never ever saw the elusive 'Ward Doctor', even though I asked to see him the night before and on the day I left...

I had a knee replacement so we told to use ice packs my issue was that the nursing staff did not want to get it for you and would huff and puff you might finally get it 40 minutes later after reminding then twice, i had this for 2 weeks. My own medication was locked in the bedside drawer i can understand that but the issue i had was i needed my tablets at certain times they said that was no problem but when i asked them i was kept waiting 30 minutes over the time i needed them which gave me issues at first they refused to give me any as they said it was not written up but, it was in my notes i needed them. Also my surgeon popped to see how i was doing with the knee bending machine they had not given it to me he requited it 2 days earlier, then we had to find a physio who knew how to work it. I was told i had to drink lot of water and my jug was empty one evening and i asked if it was possible to have some more water please the reply i got was .." Really" I do not expect things like that if i knew where to go i would of got it myself. Things got so bad i got in touch with PALS and i did have a matron come and see me and said she would look into it but i heard no more. I was the only one in my ward that would get up and walked about tying to do the physio but, on the day i left a new nurse appeared and she came into the ward with a trolley full of the ice packs and and was helping the people get up and move around such a shame she was not around while i was in. So after my experience with Queen Alexandra Hospital NO i would not recommend that department in fact i have told people how bad it was.

Review of Cardiology Day Unit written by a patient
20th February 2019

My experience in Cardiology 'Day' ward was marvellous. I especially would like to thank Sarah who was fantastic with me. Jenny who helped to explain to my wife the in's and out's of an angioplasty. These two nurses were kind and generous with their time. I never felt a nuisance as I have slight dementia and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you very much.

The staff were excellent .the waiting time to get this appointment is the draw back. And people waiting to take you home when you have come a long way are left in the dark as to what is happening to the patient ?? So communication really .thats. The only draw back .thank you

first impression "cattle market". No privacy offered, with a little effort I could have been made aware of the relentless noise of metal bins, various beeps, overheard conversations, etc.. The staff were pleasant and professional. The area needs a re-vamp including procedures.

Review of B7 written by a patient
9th February 2019

From being assigned my midwife she made me feel at ease, involved and listened to my needs. Lauren was able to act on this or provide reassurance of what we could do next. The majority of staff on the post natal ward were attentive and helpful, a few would forget what you had asked making you feel awkward to repress a buzzer, this may be down to staff shortage and the workload of the day/evening. Overall I am happy and content with the care I have received.

Review of Fracture Liaison Service written by a patient
4th February 2019

Comfortable waiting area though would have liked a Coffee machine after 2 hours! I can see that this would be impractical, though. The hospital is clean, light and airy. Nice curtains in the consultation cubicle! LOVELY STAFF from initial questionnaire nurse to x-ray to cast technicians to doctors plus others. Everyone was polite, professional in manner and appearance, kind and reassuring and helpful. A special mention for the welcoming volunteer on arrival at the hospital at 9.45 am on the 4th February.
