For the early part of my treatment, I was cared for at Haslar Hospital in Gosport. That place was immaculate, and run by a very strict Matron who looked after her ward stoicly. The nurses were very caring, to me and all those around me. I couldn't fault the place.
So, when I was moved to QA, because they were closing Haslar, I noticed the difference at once. The nurses were, it seems, desensitized to the needs of some of the (more elderly) patients around me. For a few hours after I came out of an operation I was immobile and had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic, and had no water and wasn't offered any food. So breakfast the next day and a cup of tea, was the first food and drink I had for about 14 hours.
Good
