This is a difficult ward to have to be on, although to be fair no-one really wants to be in hospital. The individuals responsible for giving care are in the main faultltess, but seem hopelessly overrun a lot of the time. They do not have any time to finish a task before they are interrupted to do another task. One of the worse aspects is the issuing of medication, at the ward I was in in the Southampton General this was a protected task and undertaken without interruption, timings were consistent. Here, different people undertook the task each day, and timings were all over the place. On several occasions I was given medications at 12midnight or 1am in the morning, when I really should have been sleeping. It is impossible to keep track of whether you are being the correct medication at any poiint - it seemed a frequent point of confusion amongst the patients. Noise levels at night were unacceptable mostly, although some shifts seemed to do this better. Meals were generally well timed and the content of ther food was good. However it would have been good to see a menu in advance, rather than have to choose off the cuff all the time without deliberation. The thing seemingly missing overall was a 'gel' to hold everything together, a "boss" if you will. Maybe there is one, but they were not obvious.
