I stayed overnight on the postnatal ward on Sunday, June 2nd and was discharged Monday, June 3rd. The majority of staff I came into contact with were completely lovely and the care me and my baby received was amazing. Unfortunately some of the night staff on the postnatal ward were not as friendly as I would expect. Music was being played all night and I could still hear this with my door closed. I was also struggling to breastfeed my baby around 2am when a midwife and support worker checked on me. They knew I was struggling but did not check on me again until 6am. Luckily I had managed to feed my baby during this time. In the morning I became quite tearful and emotional and a support worker came in to take my lunch order. It was quite clear I was upset but she took my order and promptly left. She did not acknowledge that I was even tearful or ask if I was okay. She left before I could say anything so I rang my buzzer. However, when the day staff took over at 8am, I felt much more relaxed and happier and I was checked on frequently. Everything was explained to me thoroughly and me and my baby were allowed to be discharged by the afternoon. The care I received during labour was also outstanding. From the Support workers, midwives, doctors, anaesthetists etc - they were all amazing and I feel incredibly lucky that me and my baby were cared for so well. Thank you doesn’t even cover how grateful we are.
