First of all, We had a slight tiff with the night staff as I was going to be induced the next day and because I wasn’t in active labour yet and visiting hours were over, they tried to make my partner go home which meant that I’d be in the hospital room on my own all night. I was already having mild contractions at this point from early labour and didn’t get any sleep the night before so as you can image, this sent me into a major panic and I told the staff that I would be discharging myself after having a panic attack. After the discharge papers were signed, the midwife asked me if I wanted her to check my dilation so I agreed. I was 3cm and she asked if I wanted another membrane sweep as I was very favourable so I agreed. She then said that both me and my partner could stay the night so we did. This was about 2am. At 5-6am they checked my dilation again and I was 8cm. That’s when they decided to give me the epidural as they knew I wanted one. They provided me with gas and air while I waited for this. Epidural was painless as they numbed my back before injecting. They then did change over with the day staff and one midwife stayed with us from that moment right up until I gave birth, she was the only one in the room when I was pushing. She was absolutely lovely and so reassuring. When I felt like giving up and was telling her that I couldn’t do it, she was so sweet and told me that baby was nearly out. Finally, baby had arrived and the delivery midwife made me feel so good about myself, telling me how much of a great job I did. Everyone goes on about how hospital food isn’t the nicest but I was actually really impressed with it, and the amount you get as well
I'm writing this now as I have my husband home, we visited the department a couple of weeks ago but I would like to thank the nurse in Ambulance handover Michelle who made sure my husband started his treatment but also the nurse in charge Annemarie.
Annemarie was so very kind to us as a family, made sure I knew what was going on but also reassured us constantly and contacted me at home to give me updates. My husband waited nearly a day for a bed but I was reassured he had everything he needed.
Incredibly well looked after.
A special thanks to Hannah, one of the auxiliary nurses. She was absolutely amazing, so kind and generous, a real superstar. Please pass on my thanks to her, she is a credit to the hospital.
I’m from Lincoln and decided to give birth in Grimsby Hospital and it is the best decision I’ve made. Every staff member have done nothing but treat me with respect and kindness. There were times I wanted to give up but every midwife I had, had a positive mentality and continued to push me and support me. I have never been so grateful for a bunch of people I could not recommend them more!!
Department cannot cope with the number of arrivals.
Forced into decisions I didn't want after saying I didn't want them even though its my body, left upset and stressed
We had the most compassionate and caring midwives looking after us. Nothing was too much trouble and we were all treated with dignity and respect. We were coming to say goodbye to our baby and what was a very sad and emotional situation was turned into a positive experience by all the staff that showed great empathy with our situation. Lisa Davies and Dianne were our main day time and night time midwives who were absolutely brilliant.
The staff on Blueberry (midwife Amy, student midwife and Dr) were all so kind and caring, they took care to explain everything and reassured me that I was right to get checked out. They had a calm approach that put me at ease immediately. The made a worrying time a lot more pleasant.
Appointment at eye clinic with Mrs Jose. I was expecting to see Mr Zaman but on seeing Mrs Jose I came away feeling upset and bullied . I didn't expect to have eye drops so drove there and was told by mrs Jose that 90% of people need drops I should have known that. Because of this she couldn't check eyes throughly I tried to say the optician had seen clouding in my right eye new lens dhe said not interested what the option says she's the expert and wasn't necessary for me to attend clinic . I said I would like her opinion on my left eye cataract operation to complete my eyes . As im struggling with reading glasses. Her answer the eye could remain like that for years .DO You Want it doing or not she raised her voice
I tried to explain the cateracts where offered to me because of suspected onset of glaucoma a new lens would help the drainage of eyes . Ssid i was nervous of having the op as last eye I had to go back as there was fragmentation in lens Her reply is there is always risks with operations do you want to go on the list or not. Really in a bullying tone I agreed to it as I was feeling inset and came away . I went for professional advice and felt upset and billed.
Everyone was great and made what could be an uneasy experience very pleasant
Thank you
