My only criticism is of the automated telephone answering system which, in my experience, always involves a lengthy call but never puts the caller through to the person they need to speak to but instead rings out several times, is unanswered and then returns the caller to the options queue.
Having had to use the practice fairly regularly for just over a year I can only say that from reception to surgical staff, I have been extreemly pleased at the way it operates.
Fern House Surgery is set in what I assume was previously a large domestic residence so it is restrained in the layout of the building and can hardly be called 'state of the art' and clinical, but this does add a homely feel to the surroundings. As in common with many GP surgeries these days, it can be a problem getting a convenient appointment, the telephone lines are always very busy and the system of booking appointments 48 hrs in advance (except in emergencies) can be quite frustrating if you are trying to fit an appointment in with work comittments. This is especially difficult if you wish to see a particular doctor. I also find the telecom system that calls patients to their appointments very difficult to hear, I am often in the situation where all of us waiting look round and wonder what was just said.
All the staff at the surgery are polite and help where needed.
Emergency appointments are always available same day which I think is an important part of a doctors surgery. The reception team are generally friendly. The waiting room could do with a few toys for young children as the wait can be long sometimes. I would myslef be happy to donate some toys and books but there doesn't seem to be anywhere they could go.
