I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Patel and the National Health Service (NHS) for the surgery and care I received. After a two-year wait on the waiting list, Mr. Patel kindly agreed to take over my case. While the extended wait time was understandably frustrating, particularly given the unfortunate last-minute cancellations due to a previous consultant's departure from the NHS, I appreciate the complexities involved. Thankfully, the surgery under Mr. Patel's care proceeded smoothly, and I was discharged after five days following this intensive procedure. I am deeply grateful to Mr. Patel, the entire surgical team, and all NHS staff for their expertise and dedication throughout my pre-operative, operative, and post-operative care.

An extremely confident and skilled surgeon, I couldn’t have been in better hands. We are very fortunate to have Mr Patel and his team in Watford hospital. He has reassuring manners and warm positive personality which helps with dealing with the stressful and emotional situation.

I had total confidence in Mr Patel. I found him very easy to talk to and had confidence that he is a very experienced bowel cancer surgeon.

For me, no improvement suggestions as the doctor gave me full confidence that I would be safe in his hands.

Firstly his PA is excellent. She responded to me on a Saturday evening and arranged for me to see Mr Patel on Monday afternoon (2 days later) Mr Patel then listened to me and quickly diagnosed the problem after a clinical examination. Surgery was required and he then went out of his way to find the first available theatre at a few locations. Surgery went very well and my recovery, under his watch, went better than expected. For that I say thank you Mr Patel and Rohina. I’d recommend to anyone if asked.

Profile

Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon,
Honorary Clinical Research Fellow Imperial College London,
MB BS, MSc, PhD DIC, FRCS (Gen Surg).

My clinical interests are in minimally invasive (robotic and laparoscopic) surgery for colorectal cancer and benign conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulosis. I also specialise in treatments for perianal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fistula and anal fissure, as well as general surgical conditions such as hernia.

I graduated from St George’s University of London in 2000. I completed my specialist surgical training in the North West London Deanery. This was followed by two fellowships at St Mark’s Hospital London and the London Colorectal Fellowship (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and University College Hospital).

In addition to my clinical work, I have wide research interests which have been established through my MSc in surgical science and a PhD both attained from Imperial College London. My research focuses on collaboration, leadership and mentoring in healthcare, which has culminated in numerous peer-reviewed publications in a broad range of surgical disciplines and international and national conference presentations.

I currently work as a consultant colorectal and general surgeon at Watford General Hospital and Spire Bushey Hospital.
