I had a single mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction in April 2021 at the Charing Cross hospital. The operation was performed by Mr Thiruchelvam (mastectomy) and Mr Jallali (reconstruction). I decided to wait a few more weeks for Mr Thiruchelvam to become available, which was the right decision. I am now 6 weeks after the operation, and I am very happy with the result. There were several concerns because of the position of my tumours and the size of my breasts. Mr Thiruchelvam requested additional scan just before the operation to make sure I have “the right operation” – so now I have a scar on the side of my breast rather than in the front. I appreciated Mr Thiruchelvam’s honesty during the consultations, as well as his cheerful nature and friendly jokes. I would also like to thank the cancer support nurse Ms O’Neill. Her and Mr Thiruchelvam are a great team. Her help was invaluable, particularly in the few days immediately after the operation.
