I was extremely fortunate that my surgeon told me that my operation was so complex he did not feel confident enough to carry it out. However, he referred my case notes to Mr Jenkins for him to decide if he could carry out the operation. Thankfully he decided he could and we had a zoom call. During the call he clearly mapped out the complexity of my cancer and surgery. He discussed the possible side effects after the operation and the potential long term problems. He answered all of our questions and I were not left feeling that I’d not been heard. My operation took place at The London Clinic and Mr Jenkins kept in touch with me before it took place. After the operation he visited every day to check up on my progress. I ended up spending in total about 8 weeks in the hospital after I went back with a minor complication. Mr Jenkins visited all times of the day and early evening and I always felt that what ever question I had about my recovery I would ask. He also had a good sense of humour which was I definitely welcomed. What I most respected about him was that he explained all of the potential things that may delay my recovery and when I did hit a road bump I didn’t feel scarred because he had prepared me. He was always completely professional in his conduct and I enjoyed seeing what outfit he would wear in each visit. (I think he must have a very large wardrobe at home to accommodate all his clothes). Follow up appointments and calls have again been professional and he has explained that my recovery can take up to 12 months. My cancer journey was a long and hard one and I know that Mr Jenkins saved my life. I’m now 7 months post operation and just had my latest round of CT & MRI tests which came back again with NED. I will be forever grateful that I was operated on by such an exemplary surgeon. Thank you
