I saw Mr Atkinson at the Highgate Hospital as part of the NHS post-COVID catch up due to a worsening condition involving my right foot/ankle which was severely affecting my mobility. He embodies all that is best about the consultant/surgeon-patient relationship. He listened to all my concerns regarding invasive procedures, having determined that I had congenital fusion of the major bones in my foot which was the cause of Posterior Tibialis Tendinopathy. The treatment plan he devised reflected this, although he stated that ultimately surgery would be required, as was the case. Following surgery to realign my foot I have been essentially pain-free and after four months my mobility has improved markedly and I was assured that it will continue to get better over the coming months. I feel very fortunate that Mr Atkinson was my surgeon as he was consistently approachable, knowledgeable, honest and positive.
