I had been referred to Dr Bowman by my GP due the amount of widespread pain. First impressions... he was very nice and pleasant and calming. Recently being diagnosed with coeliac disease, I thought my pain would ease. He did some physical tests and it showed that I have fybromyalgia. He could see how much pain I was in from him touching the trigger points. He gave me an understanding of fybromyalgia and discussed rheumatoid arthritis (which is in my family and I thought that what it was). I would recommend Dr Bowman.

During my time being treated by Mr Simon Bowman I can honestly say he was the most understanding and patient consultant I have seen . I saw him every 3 mths at selly oak . I moved down south now and have had the rudest most arrogant consultant ever . Give me Mr Bowman any day

I've never left a bad review for any doctor. Usually, I am singing the praises of all medical staff whether in the NHS or private practice. However, my private consultation with Simon Bowman was a very unpleasant experience and left me shocked and disappointed. Having read another review on here, I was struck by how similar our experience sounded with Prof Bowman and I felt I needed to post this review. I went to Prof Bowman to discuss whether I might have EDS. He was extremely dismissive and curt. Despite having had a diagnosis of an autoimmune disease from an NHS specialist and been treated for it over the past few years, he dismissed that diagnosis completely. He also said there was no way I had EDS. I felt patronized and treated as though I was an idiot. The appointment was expensive - somewhere in the realm of £250 - and I was taken aback by his lack of warmth, terrible manner and dismissive attitude. I went on to see a different doctor who diagnosed me with hEDS after a very thorough and detailed assessment in one visit. For many hEDS patients, we lose some hypermobility as the years go by thanks to age, or due to issues like Fibromyalgia or arthritis as they affect our range of movement. hEDS is best assessed from a multi-systemic standpoint looking at skin, veins, joint subluxations and a host of other symptoms - not only the basic 'can you stretch your fingers back' criteria. None of this was taken into account. I would not recommend Simon Bowman - especially if your concern is about EDS. Save your money and your time.

Saw Professor Bowman for a referral to a specialist area of the NHS for a rare syndrome it was suggested by another Rheumatologist I had previously seen. He was dismissive of me immediately. Quite angry that I was even there daring to ask for a referral and that I had a suggestion for what might be wrong with me. He did a Beighton Score on me and scored 1/9 when I subsequently saw the country's leading specialist privately when it became evident Dr Bowman's lack lustre and dismissive referral would never get me to see the people I needed to. The country's leading expert showed me properly how to be tested for the Beighton Score and I scored 9/9. I have been diagnosed now and am getting the help I need privately but I am lucky I had the option.
