I was hugely impressed by both the total clinical professionalism, and in particular the clear communications skills of Dr Duncan. Throughout my care he has explained very clearly both my care pathway, and on what those decisions are (and will) be based on. He has followed up with references to appropriate guidelines, and always taken the time to ensure I understood both the biology and physics of my condition, an approach that was important to me. After we agreed one year in on a new course of action, I was not only prepared but also clear about why we were going now in that direction. All along the clear explanation and reassurances helped me “own” my condition and make appropriate lifestyle changes to help the process. This teamwork between Dr and patient has ensured a very positive outcome for my long term health and in my case in particular seen a dramatic reduction in previously (totally out of control) hypertension. For that I am hugely grateful to the whole team linked to the renal and IR unit at Hammersmith, delivering quantifiable world-class care. Dr Duncan’s communication skills were also demonstrated in his work with IR securing a “Hammersmith team response” to planning my treatment across specialties.
