Heather took control of my post surgical wound care after a traumatic period of time where my wound was only getting worse and larger as time went on. I was extremely stressed about the wound and could not see how it was going to heal. Heather kept me calm and reassured me that we would get the site healed. She managed the wound through several different stages of the healing process including use of a Vac Pump and a multitude of different dressings and packings which changed as the wound got smaller. She kept me well informed and educated me as we the process unfolded. We had regular weekly meetings where Heather would change the dressings and assess the wound. I found that Heather would readily go above and beyond for me as she became an incredibly reliable link into the hospital system for me where she would happily chase up pending appointments or tests for me, nothing seemed to big of an ask for her. On one occasion I spoke to her out of hours when I had a dressing burst and within she was able to very quickly and efficiently organise for someone else to speedily and efficiently change my dressing for me, the whole incident was resolved within 90 minutes of the wound bursting including me travelling into the hospital! I would not have come through my recovery with such mental and physical resolve had it not been for Heather, she supported me in so many more ways than just wound care through a very tough period in my life. I could not recommend Heather more in both her professional and personal approach to her work and I shall always hope to bump into her whenever I am in Chelsea & Westminster hospital for a catch up. If we could clone Heather, the NHS would be a considerably less daunting, more efficient and enjoyable experience!!
