I was transferred to this ward at 23:00 on Friday evening, 21 April. I had had a stressful evening on Fleming ward because the TV was blaring away all evening (see separate feedback) - so hardly any sleep after an operation that day. Then, once transferred to Bonney, I couldn't sleep here either because the staff were talking all night within earshot of the wards. Surely a patient shouldn't have to ask nursing staff at midnight to keep their voices down?! And when she does, they don't apologise but carry on talking at the same volume?! They did shut the door, but it was soon opened again due to another patient needing care (fair enough), and left open, while they chatted and laughed away merrily. I'm not talking about essential procedural or medical issues in hushed voices, but chat, gossip, in normal-volume voices. Surely this isn't acceptable at night when patients need to sleep? Their solution was not to stop chatting, but to find some earplugs (from another patient). Please could you raise this issue, and impose quiet on night staff on the wards, and if this is already policy, make sure staff adhere to it?
