We were sent by 111 for an out of hours visit. There was no GP on duty. We waited almost an hour in an empty waiting room and there were no other patients at all, whilst the MIU staff were chatting and looking at their phones. When we were eventually seen, an elderly male nurse treated my 15 year old daughter and very very repetitively kept joking it would be best to just cut off her toe. It wasn’t really funny the first time, but after the umpteenth time it was quite frankly uncomfortable and made my daughter feel ‘creeped out’. He then dressed the toe very roughly despite knowing that she was in immense pain. She burst into tears as soon as we left the hospital.

Suggested improvements
Be seen quicker when there was no other patient waiting. Don’t treat patients patronisingly. Be more mindful of pain when making contact with wounds.
