I had an mirena coil put in in two weeks ago after a laparoscopy for endometriosis and adenomyosis at Birmingham Womens Hospital. On Monday I started to experience irritation, discomfort and pelvic pain. I thought I just need to give the coil time to settle. However this got worse by the Wednesday so on Thursday morning at about 0930 I called the clinic at the Greens Health Centre and I explained the situation and the receptionist was so lovely, kind and helpful and advised me to walk in and a nurse would check it. I saw a lovely nurse called Sue I think and instantly she recognised straightaway the coil was not in the right place and therefore removed it. When she removed it one arm of the coil was bent. Within an hour of phoning I was seen and treated. Couldn’t ask for anything more just a brilliant service and experience from start to finish Thank you so so much. Just amazing!!!!!!

Suggested improvements
Could there be any possibility of having an ultrasound scanner to check if coils are in the correct place? This would be really helpful provision from a patient safety perspective.
