I booked an appointment for a blood test as requested by a consultant at Northampton General Hospital following a visual migraine which was suspected to be a TIA. Following an MRI, I was to book and ECG (which all happened as planned) and a blood test. On arrival, and being called in by the nurse it was apparent that no details of this blood test had been communicated, and there was nothing in my notes. Without this information, no blood could be taken, so this became not only a waste of time for me and the nurse, but also potentially put my health at risk.

Suggested improvements
Any communications from the hospital to the GP practice should be added to a patient’s notes to make sure things like this don’t happen in future
