When you call at 8am there are so many people on the line. If you are lucky then the call back system is good. Unfortunately when you do manage to speak to a receptionist about an appointment they have gone and so have the following week’s appointments. I did manage to get an appointment after visiting the surgery, although not for that week. My experience with the staff. They are very nice and helpful. :)

If all the appointments have gone there is not much else they can do. I don’t work there so I don’t know the protocol so I can’t make an opinion and blame the staff.

My husband has been trying for a few weeks to get an appointment. Although he rings at 8, he is usually told that he is beyond 30 in the queue. He has now given up and I dread needing an appointment as I can see how difficult it is. I appreciate that there has been a fair amount of staff sickness.

I think that perhaps there could be two opportunities a day for appointments-a morning appointment which needs to be made at 8am onwards and a second bite at the cherry with phone lines open from 1 to 1.30 for an afternoon appointment. At least this way patients would not be left feeling helpless that they have missed out for another day. This system worked well at my last surgery which had a similar number of patients.
