On the whole a very friendly and efficient practice. However their ability to effectively manage INR blood results/medication is sadly lacking, not helped because of a lack of an INR meter that would give instant results. On more than one occasion my INR level has been well outside my therapeutic range and if your bloods are taken on a Friday blood INR levels could be at a dangerous level for two to three days. This has been commented on before with no action taken to purchase a meter (about £500) and really don’t expect anything to happen soon as I don’t believe these posts are read!

Response from Beversbrook Medical Centre

Thank you for your feedback - we always like to hear from our patients, good or bad, as it provides us with an accurate picture of how we are performing and where we can make improvements. I would love to speak to you more about your comments and would be grateful if you could e-mail me at emmybutcher@nhs.net. As this feedback is anonymous I am afraid I cannot identify you. However, we have looked at getting the machine (INR STAR) you have suggested in the past, our decision not to have one is not about cost I can assure you. We came to the conclusion that using the machine does not give a more accurate reading than having your blood taken by venepuncture and tested in the RUH laboratory. We feel this is a safer method of testing your INR levels and having your dosing agreed by your GP. However, we do concede that it is more instant. You will be pleased to hear however, that we have implemented a new protocol regarding Friday INR testing and we think we have been able to introduce a better system to address the element of patient safety which you have mentioned here. Once again, I would welcome the opportunity to speak to you about this further so I do hope you get in touch. Many thanks Mrs Emmy Butcher, Practice Manager.
