The following was my experience of trying to see a doctor
After a weekend of worsening pain in my back which I first thought was a muscle strain , I then developed a temperature and the pain became quite severe, so the following morning I phoned the surgery to make an appointment, I called at 8.35 and following 55 Minutes on hold , I rang off and redialed straight away after another 35 minute hold , the call was answered , I was then told where were no appointments to see a doctor, and was told to go to The Doctor Link web site, and someone would review my results and come back to me. So I went on to the web site and answered the questions, the system then told me I had Covid 19 and I needed to go and get a test and isolate, I had never heard of severe kidney/ abdominal pain being a symptom of Covid 19, so I went back in to the web site and changed 1 answer i.e. I did not have a temperature , now the Computer told me I should go within 4 hours to a Urgent Treatment center as THE COMPUTER said I had a possible acute urinary tract infection or a possible Kidney infection, so went on the NHS web site and was directed to Urgent Treatment Centre in Yate when I got there after a 40 minute drive, I was told were was no urgent Treatment center in Yate and told to go away. I again checked NHS web site and only other Center was in Hengrove another hour drive away , I tried again to contact the surgery on hold for 40 minutes, I then spoke to a receptionist and explain that I just needed to see a doctor, and not drive another hour in severe pain, was told the only thing she could do was email me a form about Bladder infection which she told me to fill out, which she would then pass on to a Doctor, I emailed this straight back, and started my drive to Hengrove Treatment center in increasing pain, arriving at just before 4.00pm , having now spent nearly 5 hours driving AS I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO SEE MY OWN DOCTOR . When I arrived at the treatment center at Hengrove , the very helpful Patford House receptionist phoned me back to tell that a doctor had looked at the form, and decided I had a Bladder infection, and would send a prescription for antibiotics to Sutton Benger, which I could pick up , so a further hours drive back still in severe pain, I picked up my prescription , and a sample bottle. After 3 days I am still in some pain not as bad as Monday , have not had any results from The Surgery . still not seen a Doctor and just hope the computer has got my treatment right.
