Professor Chapman-Sheath listened to me and my concerns NOT to rush in to surgical options but rather to investigate how long surgery could be delayed and what the alternative options available were. After suggesting an up-to-date MRI scan of both knees he concluded that despite my knees being arthritic ("with bone on bone action") as I am currently not experiencing any pain or restrictions to what I want to achieve in my life, like regular daily walks and skiing 2-3 times a year, his recommendation to do nothing at this time but noted I would need a half-knee replacement some years down the line dependent on my weight and how the deterioration develops. In my view this was a great outcome as I have no desire to have any surgical procedures unless they are absolutely necessary and needed. He showed me the scans and talked me through them and we explored the other options like steroid injections etc.
