Mr Al-Hakim performed a rotator cuff repair on my shoulder after months of pain and inability to lift my arm above shoulder height or carry out any lifting or certain movements using my left arm. My life was very frustrating as I was a 61-year-old very active man, playing golf, gym, swimming. DIY and playing with my grandchildren, which became impossible prior to surgery. Mr Al-Hakim quickly diagnosed the MRI scan as a tear of the shoulder tendon and explained everything in a detailed manner that I was able to comprehend. The operation was performed under GA with a pain blocker that effectively froze my shoulder for 24 hours, with Mr Al-Hakim carefully explaining the process and reassuring a very nervous patient (me) prior to the operation. Within a few weeks I was out of pain and commenced physiotherapy, under The Holly, with the wonderful Noel, who guided me diligently through exercises to avoid the shoulder seizing up. Throughout my consultations with Mr Al-Hakim I found his manner friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. I was provided with photographs after the surgery and Mr Al-Hakim explained everything he did, which was quite an extensive amount of work, amazingly completed via arthroscopic method, with minimal scarring in 3 points around my shoulder, which have healed perfectly. I was discharged this morning after 6 months and I’m about 80% along the recovery path, but able to do all the things the injury prevented me from doing, which is fantastic! I would have no hesitation in recommending this fine surgeon, who I would also describe as a fine gentleman. He is now my hero and has given me my life back and I owe him a massive debt of gratitude, even though he says “I’m only doing my job” in his inimitable humble and decent way.
