My son had a complete rupture of his ACL and cartilage damage at the age of 12, due to a skiing accident on a school trip. After a couple of false starts at St Marys we were eventually put under the care of Mr Gupte. Things then progressed really quickly and efficiently, with the operation scheduled without delay. As a worried parent, I felt informed, listened to and reassured about the procedure and likely outcome, without any glossing over of possible problem areas. The operation was a success, and it has always been a pleasure to see Mr Gupte in clinic. Even though he is naturally in high demand, he is fully focussed on the patient in hand, even in our case where there is both a child and parents to communicate with, in one teeny tiny room! I think he is an exceptional doctor, and when I was in the crowded waiting room last time, I noticed that he also had a smile and acknowledgement for other patients as he passed by; I think he makes everyone feel special. To have wonderful surgical skills and a great and caring bedside manner is a very special combination.

I had my first knee replacement last year at Charing Cross having been indecisive and very anxious and nervous about having a full knee replacement. I met Mr Gupte a few times and after a couple of false starts due to my anxiety I went ahead February 2016 to have my left knee replaced and have never looked back. Mr. Gupte was with me the whole way through before they wheeled me up and into the Theatre for surgery and afterwards once I was in the Ward. He has to be the most understanding, professional and wonderful orthopaedic surgeon I have ever met along with his patience, friendliness and his positive and confident manner. I went ahead on March 17th March 2017 for my right knee replacement and again I couldn't fault him or his team. If there was a third knee to be replaced I wouldn't hesitate to have Mr Gupte to do my surgery again !

I saw Mr Gupte after a fairly serious knee injury in a skiing accident. He was excellent throughout the process: he saw me quickly; diagnosed and explained the injury; talked me through the operation and took time to answer questions; did the operation at a time that suited me with no complications; and was helpful and supportive throughout the recovery period. Mr Gupte was confident in a way that inspired confidence in him and his team. He was also sympathetic, friendly and interested in returning me to some kind of sporting activity. Much more significantly, he also impressed my wife, who is a doctor and much more critical than me! I should say that the care I received from all the medical professionals at the Wellington and at the Platinum Medical Centre (where the operation was actually done) was excellent.

I consulted Mr Gupte about a torn meniscus in my left knee. I have had a cortisone injection and then keyhole surgery, following lots of advice and interaction. I was up and about immediately. He is compassionate, yet authoritative; all aspects of my care exceeded expectations and it was clear from all the other extremely competent support staff that Mr Gupte commands universal respect. I have no difficulty understanding why. This was my first visit to hospital and everyone at the Wellington made me welcome. No improvements required!

I was about to score what could have been described as one of the greatest goals ever seen on a football pitch when I was savagely fouled by a nasty defender, knackering my knee in the process. After nearly a year of being pushed from pillar to post by the hospital, my local GP and numerous physio's with my knee getting worse and not better - I found a saviour in Dr Gupte! I just wish I went to see him earlier!! Within 10 minutes of my first appointment (later to be confirmed he was spot on by an MRI scan) he diagnosed the injury was very serious ( ruptured cruciate and medial ligaments and mashed up cartilage). He understood my desire to get back playing sport and gave me honest and open advice of realistic expectations about the operation and chances of full recovery. The operation went really well and the recovery as good as I expected. 14 months on from the operation Dr Gupte has just given me the green light to get back on the pitch and score magical goals once again! Thank you Dr Gupte! Top man.
