Written by a NHS patient

I am speaking as a NHS patient. I have no doubt this surgeon is knowledgeable and has expertise in his area of medicine. However my experience of this consultant was not impressive. He did not go into any detail or explain what his diagnosis was, just provided the name. I was left to google what the condition was and that it's also known as 'The Suicide Disease'. My consultation with him was devoid of any empathy and I felt dehumanised. His exact words were "Sorry, I do not have a magic cure for this", before proceeding to quickly discharge me. He did not arrange to have his physio team work with me, even though physio is a known part of the accepted protocol for my condition. He simply washed his hands of a complex case with a few recommendations, which were never implemented or followed up on. It took me almost 2 years to get physiotherapy and the basic care I deserved at another hospital. The words and actions (or lack of) of this consultant will stay with me forever.
