Dr Thomson has been looking after me for the past five years when he first diagnosed me with an inherited condition. At each and every visit he takes time when giving me explanations about my treatment, monitoring and on-going care. When there was a problem he responded quickly, instigating further investigation in a timely manner and informing me of what was happening even through my planned appointment had to be rearranged due to industrial action by junior doctors. Once the results of those further tests were available he explained the options for me to consider when deciding on treatment, listened and responded to my questions. Dr Thomson has excellent relational skills, quickly establishing and building rapport and trust. He demonstrates an empathic understanding of patient needs as well as excellent clinical knowledge, expertise and skill and is well thought of by his colleagues (which was confirmed during my conversation with the consultant in the regional centre he referred me to for my specialised treatment). He responded promptly when I contacted him, via his secretary, regarding questions and concerns outside of my regular appointments and never makes me feel as if I'm being a nuisance. I feel really very fortunate to be under his care and appreciate all he's done for me in helping me to understand my condition and in maintaining my wellbeing.
