I contacted the surgery as my mother was showing signs of another urinary infection. Her fragility makes it difficult to take her to the surgery. The receptionist was really helpful and told me that she would pass on my concerns and a doctor would call me back. I received a call shortly after from Doctor Fernando, who listened to my concerns and given the fact that my mother has had a history of UTIs he felt that a home visit would be wise. An hour or so after the call, Doctor Fernando arrived. His manner immediately put my mother at ease, and even though she can find it difficult to verbalise how she is feeling at times, he listened patiently and filled in any gaps by referring to me. The assessment of my mother’s condition was carried out with consideration and professionalism. The signs were that my mother did have the beginnings of an infection. Doctor Fernando prescribed antibiotics (which were delivered by the pharmacy early afternoon, enabling me to give her the first dose straightaway). As my mother lives alone and I live a long distance from her, Doctor Fernando said he would contact the Community Nursing and ask them to visit daily to check on her condition. I received a call from them that afternoon and a Community Nurse visited that day. This continued for the following week until my mother was deemed to be ‘Okay’. From the minute I called Langham Place Surgery, my mother’s health was prioritised. The care she received was second to none and I cannot speak highly enough of Doctor Fernando, the Practice or the Community Nursing. I also cannot thank you enough for taking such good care of my mother. Being a long-distance carer can be quite challenging; knowing that there’s a caring medical team there when needed really helps. Thank you.
