Dr Fox is very knowledgable on atrial fibrillation and listened to my concerns that my condition was very intermittent. He had no hesitation implanting a heart rate monitor which highlighted the problem (a previous consultant had fitted a 24 hour monitor which showed no episodes so discharged me) Medication was prescribed and I have now been free from episodes.

I have found Dr David Fox to be a most incredible consultant. From my first consultation he has explained In a fully comprehensive manner about atrial flutter and it’s effects on the heart and how he could correct this problem I was experiencing.Having the same consultant conduct the ablation gave me piece of mind to go ahead with the procedure as he gave me total confidence, and the fact that he personally came to see me on the ward, before and after the surgery was not what I was expecting, taking away a great deal of the anxiety you naturally have when faced with an invasive procedure on your heart. As far as constructive comments for improvement. The only comment I can make is keep doing what you do best, many could learn a great deal from both your expertise and your patient relations.World Class Care...could not be looked after better.

I was diagnosed with a large number of ventricular ectopic beats (25,000+ per day). Having had no noticeable symptoms (the condition was picked up by chance as part of another medical procedure) I was referred to Dr Fox. After some initial investigations and a review after 6 months my options were essentially to watch and wait (regular check ups to ensure no deterioration in heart function) or to have a catheter ablation to try and cure it. Dr Fox was very good at explaining the options and supporting me in making a decision. I decided proceed with the ablation, primarily because the condition was playing on my mind and causing some anxiety so I wanted to try and get rid of it. Also, due to being relatively young I did not want to have to take medication now or in future for any prolonged period of time if I became symptomatic. The procedure was arranged very quickly at a time to suit me and was very well managed by Dr Fox and the staff at The Alexandra. The hospital was very accommodating, comfortable private rooms and quick/efficient in sorting everything out. Dr Fox did a good job of explaining what would happen during the procedure so I felt well prepared. The procedure itself was fine - its not the most pleasant experience but more uncomfortable rather than painful. Any discomfort I felt was mainly due to being anxious about what was happening as well as some mild pain for short periods of time (i.e. seconds) as the ablation treatment was applied. The most painful part was probably the injections of the local anaesthetic at the beginning. I had some pain and aching in my chest the night following the procedure which made sleeping difficult and this continued on and off for about 1-2 weeks. I felt very tired for at least 2 weeks after. The entry wound in my groin healed immediately and didn't cause any pain at all. The symptoms after the procedure were manageable and I was mostly just concerned that it was normal and not a sign of a problem - Dr Fox (as well as another urgent care physician at the hospital) was helpful in reassuring me during the recovery period. After 2 weeks I felt completely recovered and back to a normal routine. Four weeks following the procedure my ventricular ectopic beats have reduced from 25,000+ per day to 2 in over 48 hours. In other words, a complete success. I am very pleased with both the outcome and the way that my care was handled throughout by Dr Fox (as well as the other staff at the hospital).
