Review of Endoscopy
14th December 2021

The initial appointment details were prompt and clear with all information included. Telephone call with a query - answered promptly and helpfully. Was seen at my appointment time with no waiting. All staff were kind, caring and helpful. Very well run organisation. Could not fault my care in any way.

Review of Endoscopy
2nd December 2021

My initial contact by Jane was excellent, she explained everything and the package containing the colonoscopy information as well as the preparation instructions etc arrived in a timely fashion. The procedure and everyone involved were fantastic. I felt at ease and everything was explained to me. A piece of equipment was faulty which made my wait longer but this was not anyones fault. The problem came about when I was discharged. See below.

The discharge process requires a review. Everything up to the nurse contacting my wife went great. The nurse explained that I would be 45 minutes and she could collect me. I dressed and went to the discharge area where I waited 30 minutes thinking my wife had a problem somehow during the 5 minutes it would have taken her to drive to the hospital. I rang her to find she was waiting in reception and had explained earlier that she was there to pick me up. I had also asked one of the nurses where the discharge nurse was. Someone in reception heard my wife’s conversation and went off to find the discharge nurse. Finally I was taken to a room with my wife to be discharged. It was then found that my colonoscopy report was not in the pack. The nurse went off to find it and then explained the details of it to me. Folded it up and placed it in a wad with my signed form and other information. Before I put the paperwork away that evening I looked at the report myself only to find it was not mine. I had been given the information about another man and had no idea then what had been found. I found this very disturbing and rang Jackie first thing in the morning. She apologised and assured me this should not have happened and would look into it. I was pleased with that but just wanted to know what was on my report. Jackie rang back within 15 minutes and explained the report to me. I returned the wrong report and picked my report up, later in the day. In my opinion this would not have happened if the discharge nurse had carried out the checks that every nurse had done throughout my time at the unit. They checked my name etc against there paperwork and also checked the wrist band against this information as well. I hope this area of concern is reviewed adequately as my experience of a very professional department was let done badly in the final part of the whole procedure.

I was treated with the utmost care , consideration and professionalism whist attending the Endoscopy Unit in Queen Alexandra Hospital on 23rd November 2021. Pre and post care was also considerate with phone calls before attending hospital and also the day following my procedure to check that all was well. I could not have expected more and found the experience brilliant.

I had to attend Queen Alexandra Hospital for a wrist operation. I felt safe in the hospital as Covid -19 precautions were in place. I thank everyone for making this a safe place to visit. My operation was very successful. Everyone was very professional and caring. Thank you everyone for your hard work. You are all wonderful and deserve full recognition for your dedication. Where would we be without you?

I was treated with total respect and for the first time in my life was not judged due to my history. My sons consultant was very inclusive of me each ward round and always made sure that I understood what was being discussed and explained any medical terms that I didn’t understand. He made sure that any questions I had were answered as soon as possible if not straight away. The care shown to my son and indeed myself was second to none and I really can’t fault it. I think that the only one thing I felt could be improved was the amount of parent rooms. I was very very fortunate that due to circumstances I had one of the very few parents rooms for 8 out of the 13 weeks my son spent in NICU but with there only being 4 on the unit with potentially 30+ babies there needs to be more rooms for parents to stay if they don’t live nearby or they don’t drive or have access to a car because otherwise it’s very limiting to how much time you can spend with your baby. I was lucky to be able to be with my son every hour of the day. The staff on NICU absolutely amazing, it blew me away how fantastic they all were. My sons consultant - I couldn’t have wished for a better, kinder, more knowledgeable or more caring person and I owe him and the NICU nurses the world for them giving me my son, my world.

I was sent to QA to the nuclear medicine department to have a dye injected into my prior to a Lymph node biopsy. The technician who carried out the procedure was excellent. Everything was explained to me and I was put at ease throughout. I have not hesitation in recommending this hospital and the facility. Everything was excellent.

I came up to the hospital on Wednesday to the Gastroenterologist for an appointment . I was asked to go for a blood test in the same department, I ended up with blood being taken from my wrist , now my arm is black blue and so painful. I always have trouble giving blood , I did explain this and also said it normally has to be taken out of the back of my hand but my idea was not even entertained by the nurse. I certainly did not think by just going for a consultation I would end up in pain on my hand and arm.

Review of Colposcopy Clinic
24th May 2021

All the Nurses (male & Female) & receptionist were so polite, well mannered and eager to help in any way they could. The Doctor, (Dr. Fergus Thursby-Pelham) who performed the procedure was excellent. Kind, chatty and very very gentle. (I never felt anything and watched on the screen as to what he was doing. Really interesting as he removed a few polyps from my bowel. Overall the whole procedure from end to end was excellent.
