RE: My friend's appointment today From: jkoenig@reagan.comAdd to Contacts Sent: Thu, Aug 13, 2015 at 4:00 pm To: oxford.iwgc.net@reagan.com 2128hrs, Thursday, Aug 13, 2015 Dear Renal Unit Staff, I do not usually take time to write to any NHS Department, however, I'll make an exception. Today my disabled friend, Margaret (Mags) Wise, had an appointment to see Sally then Professor Pugh. Mags' appointment had been changed from 9AM to 9:30AM. We arrived early as I do not like driving / parking at the Churchill and LOATHE being late! so does Mags! I parked in the disabled area and had a few extra minutes to have a sandwich with Mags. About 0910AM, Mags starting to get a bit nervous 'cause nobody came with a wheelchair, put a call thru to Sally, but Kathryn's answering machine took a message that Mags was here and would like a wheel chair to take her to Renal. PS - The above was already pre-arranged so that the Staff would be ready to get Mags the wheel chair when she / we arrived. Well, as Renal was busy there weren't any wheel chairs available and Nurse Kathryn went to different Churchill departments looking for a chair - - but none was available. That lovely Nurse looked everywhere for a chair. . .and. . .finally . . .produced one from (what I would term) the main building. She pushed Mags into the Renal Department; booked her in; made sure she went to the loo; then took her to the consultation room. After Kathryn finished interviewing Mags, Professor Pugh saw her. When the Professor was finished, he carefully pushed Mags back to where I was so that Kathryn would push her to have blood taken for tests when the time was right. I was SOOOOO impressed with the Professor, who. . . .a highly qualified gent. . . .a man who has had years of training and more (I suspect) yearly training in sabaticals / lectures / seminars. . . without any pretense - or any 'I'm-too-good-to-push-a-patient' carefully pushed Mags back to wait for Kathryn. When ready Nurse Kathry pushed Mags for the blood tests, waited for her, then pushed her back to book a future check-up (Nov 5th). . . . and then. . . .pushed Mags back to my car in the disabled area. What STARS there are in Renal!!!!!! Kind....considerate.....knowledgeable....a credit to the NHS, Renal and to the professions of Doctors & Nurses. In closing, as I broadcast on 'Radio Cherwell' on Saturdays - - 2PM - - "Peanutz Doowop" and Thursdays - - 6PM. . .I asked Kathryn for a song in the Doowop era - '55 - '63, but she couldn't think of any. Perhaps whoever reads this Mail and send me a few requests to choose from for a future broadcast??? Thanks for your time and help to Mags today. Kind regards from, John Koenig the 'Platter-Pushing-Papa....Peanutz'
